Seadrake is a cheerful but largely defenseless Water-type Creo that cleaves to larger Creo for protection. It gets by chiefly by making itself useful to whatever larger Creo will have it.

Seadrake is the base form from which eight different evolutions branch, one for each affinity.

Biology

Seadrake has a golden head, back and snout, a blue and white striped underbelly, and an elegant blue spiral tail. Its main means of propulsion through the water is a rapidly fluttering fin on its back, while it steers with a small fin at the base of its neck. In order to move up and down, it expels or takes air into a specialized organ called a swim bladder. Since it is not a particularly strong swimmer, its prehensile tail serves as a much needed anchor to coral or seagrass in choppier waters.

Seadrake's only built-in defensive mechanisms are the bony plates of armor beneath its skin and its ability to focus each eye independently. This allows it to keep track of multiple movements simultaneously, either when scanning for predators or seeking out a meal.

Seadrake require a near constant intake of nourishment, as their metabolism does not allow them to store many calories in their bodies. They use their snouts to suck up tiny organisms like a vacuum.

While they do not utilize camouflage for defense, color changes play a key role in their mating rituals. Rather than changing to an entirely different color palette, Seadrake males will deepen their pale blue stripes and tail to a cobalt or indigo blue, while females will intensify their gold head and back to a rich, coppery orange.

Seadrake can latch onto another Creo and hitch a ride if need be, although most spend their entire lives in just a few square meters of habitat. To earn their keep around the Creo they rely on for protection, Seadrake will often cleanse larger Creo of the various pests and parasites that plague them and win a meal in the process. The only time Seadrake deliberately seek out a new habitat is if they are unable to procure sufficient nutrition, though this is rare in the healthy and diverse coral reefs where they prefer to reside.

Seadrake mate for life. When they feel completely assured of their safety, a Seadrake couple will twine their tails together and pirouette. Female Seadrake lay their eggs, and males are in charge of incubating them. Then they raise their young together in the protective shadow of a Creo benefactor.
