Regodon is a hulking Earth-type creo with thick, leathery gray skin, a huge mane of coarse brown hair, and tough calluses on its front legs that look like knee pads.

Regodon are not especially welcoming to their own kind, but their carvings are intricate enough to have drawn a great deal of human curiosity and study.

Biology

Regodon's most intimidating feature is a pair of long tusk-like teeth, which it uses to mark its territory by carving into rock. Those knee pads are thought to develop from all the time it spends kneeling to make precise cuts. Razor-sharp as they are, Regodon's teeth serve strictly vegetarian purposes. Besides marking territory, they dig up edible roots and tubers, strip bark off trees for food, and shove obstacles out of the way.

Regodon's skin is thick, but out in its exposed environment it is still sensitive to the sun.

Regodon are nearsighted, which is why they have to kneel so close to the ground to make their markings. Naturally, that also makes it hard to notice a rival's warning marks. Instead of relying on eyesight, Regodon have developed extremely sensitive skin on their feet that reads the exact texture of whatever they are walking on.

Regodon live on rugged, rocky plateaus dotted with shallow pools. They bathe in those pools daily, plastering themselves with a soothing layer of mud. Regodon are intensely possessive of their watering holes, especially in summer when a water source might dry up, which is why they spend so much time chiseling unique patterns of symbols into the surrounding stone to warn other Regodon away.

Being territorial does not make Regodon aggressive. They are conflict averse and would rather not confront one another at all. As an extra precaution against unwanted run-ins, they announce their approach with grunts, snorts, squeaks, and even whistling sounds. A wary growl in reply tells them it is time to turn around.
