Polycryst is an Earth-type creo that serenades cave visitors with a harmonized hum in answer to every footfall.

Many visitors never work out where the humming comes from and put it down to wind whistling through the tunnels, or even to tremors in the earth. They also tend to assume that the lumpy texture on the cave surface is some kind of rock formation, rather than a mass of Polycryst.

Biology

Polycryst thrive on the waste of the other cave residents. They feed on the small bacteria that in turn feed on decaying droppings left by other creo. They also take in a great deal of mineral matter, since their main water source carries all sorts of dissolved compounds and deposits.

Polycryst cluster tightly with hundreds of their own kind on cave ceilings and walls, hanging upside down and humming in unison until the very air of the cave rings with their welcome.

The best food of all turns up when a visitor is forgetful and leaves belongings behind. Every Polycryst descends on the abandoned bag, devouring anything edible and using the rest to line the nooks and crannies of their home. When they are not humming at visitors or scavenging, Polycryst enjoy racing each other down long cave corridors to see who can roll fastest.
