Skalorn is a towering Water and Air-type creo known for how protective it is.

Skalorn form lasting bonds with their own kind and behave in a highly protective, nurturing way. They put themselves between danger and whoever is in their care, using their hardened shells as a shield. They will also ferry smaller animals across deep or fast-moving rivers on their backs, and they extend the same treatment to a human they have bonded with.

Even so, Skalorn are slow to trust people, because some hunt them for their plentiful, tender meat.

Biology

Skalorn's hollow bones and lightweight shell let it lift off the ground and truly fly. Its sharp red eyes sit under a bony purple ridge that arches over the brow and over the round openings of its ears, ending in three sharp points. The ridge serves for both defense and attack, letting Skalorn swing its head or land a forceful head-butt on anything it sees as a threat.

Its oiled feathers shift color to match the sky and the surface of the sea, which camouflages it, and its bony two-toed feet let it skate on ice.

Skalorn eat mostly fish, water plants, and shoreline greenery. They can live up to 50 years.

Skalorn live along wide, slow rivers and coastal waterways, usually staying near shore, and they are well suited to colder regions. When the rivers freeze, they skate across the ice with surprising confidence and grace.
