Metacoon is a Nature-type creo that chews its way through dirt continuously, the way cattle chew their cud.

Metals from that diet end up in its shell, which once made Metacoon look like a shortcut to refined ore.

Biology

Metacoon handles the various materials it swallows in different ways. Organic matter is digested to fuel its metabolism. Non-metal minerals simply go in one opening and out the other. Metals are kept and built into its shell.

Over time that shell becomes nothing short of an armored tank. Older Metacoon with more developed shells can dig through denser, more compacted dirt and even through stone.

Ever eager to exploit others for profit, some people thought Metacoon would make good miners. They released a number of them into a mine, expecting them to chew through ore and deposit refined, pure metal into their shells.

The plan was to harvest those shells, most likely killing the creo in the process, purely to save the trouble of refining the ore themselves.

The operation failed for two reasons.

First, it proved nearly impossible to find the Metacoon once they were released. They chewed their way through the earth, opening passages no person could follow.

Second, it proved just as impossible to separate a Metacoon from its shell. Whatever binds the two together is clearly as tough as the shell itself.

Description

Metacoon consumes the earth with bits of metal that deposit into its shell making it incredibly tough.
