Alphites

From Creopedia

The Alphites are a people of the Prime Dimension who splintered into distinct tribes, each adapting to its own region and developing its own culture, politics, and specialties. Following the conflict with Nebu, an exodus occurred, with some tribes crossing into the Earth dimension through the original portal.

History

Most of what is known about the Alphites comes from two chroniclers. Qa'yeh, scribe to the King of the Alphites, recorded the second Alphite era and the first Prime War on tablets scattered throughout EvoCreo. Adl, a scribe in the court of the last king, chronicled the years after his people passed through the portal and began a new calendar for them.

The first era and the peace

The first Alphite era was remembered as a dark time best forgotten. The great Alphite kingdoms waged a war that engulfed all the lands, and hundreds of thousands died defending their homes and families. Only after the world lay in ruin did the kingdoms sign a peace treaty, ending all wars in the lands and closing the first era. In the peace that followed, the kings resolved their disputes through diplomacy.

Alphites live far longer than humans. Six hundred years is not uncommon for an Alphite to live. They can manipulate the energy around themselves and around distant objects, pushing, pulling, leaping and slicing. Their warriors were counted among the most skilled in the world.

The taming of the creo

Powerful creatures roamed the Alphite lands, and in year 2786 of the second era the King of the Alphites tamed the first of them, calling the tamed creatures creo. Over the following century more came from the wild and submitted to him of their own free will, and the King taught his people how to tame them, giving his disciples the name Evokers. By 2942 the beasts of the land had all been tamed. Seeing that his creo were more than pets and witnessing their intellect, the King prepared to teach them to speak.

The Mal and the Prime Wars

In 3002 homes in the village were damaged and crops destroyed, and the villagers blamed the creo. Confronted by the King, the accused answered that they saw the Alphites' taming as slavery and wanted to be free. The King banished them into the wilds, never to return, and when they began attacking Evokers at the edge of the kingdom he labelled them the Mal creo.

The Mal grew in number and organization under a leader unlike any creo the Alphites had encountered: eyes glowing like the embers of a dying flame, streaks incandescing across its body as it moved, larger and stronger than any creo before it. It commanded its followers without words, and they obeyed as if puppets. The Alphites named it Nebu, the first of the Nebulous creo, and prepared for war. The fighting became known as the Prime Wars.

As the war turned, creo that had once come from far and wide to accept the King's rule began joining the Mal, holding the Alphites responsible for the war and for disturbing their peace. By 3135 the Alphites were being overpowered, and by 3137 the kingdom was falling. In 3139 the Alphites resolved to leave the world: a portal was constructed in the heart of the fortress, and the King rode out to hold back the Mal creo and buy the time needed to charge it. Qa'yeh's final inscription, in 3140, describes creo and Alphites traversing the portal while he stood awaiting either his King's return or his own doom.

The Great Migration

Those who entered the portal arrived in the new world over a long stretch of time, even though from their own perspective they had all stepped through at roughly the same moment. Thousands went in; by Adl's account only hundreds arrived together.

The Alphites divided into groups and spread across the continent. Adl's tribe remained nomadic, but others abandoned their heritage and mixed with the locals, whom they called mankind, and bred their creo with the beasts of the new world. Adl refused to call the resulting creatures creo, though that is the name they were given. All creo known today descend from them.

The new world would not sustain his people. By year 72 of the migration no new generation could be born, and the Alphites felt a weakness come over them; the land carried no energy to keep them alive. They began building a portal in the desert, completing it in year 95, but it needed to be charged and the land had no energy to give. Locals, guided by Alphite traitors who had turned to greed, besieged the site for over a year, and in year 97 thieves took the portal crystals in the night to trade them across the land. Adl's tribe went north, and he died in year 108 in a frozen wasteland, having spent his last years searching for the crystals and leaving a plea for whoever found his tablets to recover them and open the portal.

Return to the Prime Dimension

In EvoCreo, King Tias helped a group of Alphites cross over from the other dimension, and the Shadow Hive attempted to steal the secrets held in the Alphite Tower, which at that time were the prime creo DNA. The player repelled them, and Tias gave a Fulget as a reward. In the Alphite expansion, Dracoad, a prime creo sent by Nebu, assaulted the Alphites sheltering in the refugee camp Tias had set up, a mark of how aggressive the Nebu had become.

The Alphites return in the EvoCreo 2 DLC, crossing back into the Prime Dimension through a portal built by the ancient Alphites and allying with the Prime Rangers, who sought to capture prime creo to increase their own strength. King Tias led the group, holding the title of king only because the true line had been broken and no one knew who the rightful king was. Nebu confronted them on their arrival, trying to drive them from his domain, and Tias died holding him off while the others escaped. Learning of the Ultimus, the first creo tamed by the first King of the Alphites, the group awakened it; while it fought Nebu they found the source of his power, a crystal that had been strengthening him. The Ultimus faded when its summon ran out, but it left Nebu badly weakened, and the group defeated him, freeing the Alphite lands.

3140 Qa'yeh's final inscription. He watches creo and Alphites pass through the portal while awaiting his King's return or his own doom.
unknown A later, partly scratched-out inscription from beyond the portal: decades have passed, this is not home, and its author has found the way back to the Prime Dimension but fears death will come before the portal is built.

The Great Migration

The tablets of Adl, who began the Alphite calendar anew in the world beyond the portal.

Tablet Year Event
1 1 Adl introduces himself and the defeat in the Prime Wars. Some stayed behind to fight on; the rest marched into the portal.
2 2 Thousands entered the portal but only hundreds arrive together. The survivors resolve to rebuild in the strange new land.
3 13 The Alphites divide and spread across the continent. Local beasts resist taming, and rumours spread of others breeding them with creo.

5 72 No new generation can be born and a weakness spreads through the people. Construction of a portal begins in the desert.
6 81 The tribe searches the world for materials. The mixed Alphites' so-called creo have spread further and further.
7 95 The portal is finished but must be charged. Traitors lead the locals to its location with promises of riches from the old world.
8 97 After a year of defending the site, thieves steal the charging crystals in the night. The tribe goes north.
9 105 Adl, dying and homesick, notes that an Alphite can live over 500 years but this world has no energy to sustain them.
