EvoCreo
Game Overview
In EvoCreo, Ilmfinity Studios reimagines the classic monster-taming role-playing game (RPG), introducing us to powerful monsters called Creo and human Evokers who have the power to tame and control them. Players must build a balanced team of powerful Creo and compete against other Evokers in turn-based battles using a combination of persistence and tactical thinking. The gameplay loop consists of gradual progression through the lands of Zenith, the acquisition of new Creo, and participation in battles against increasingly challenging opponents.
Over 170 unique Creo exist across a variety of environments. Depending on the choices made by their Evokers, Creo can develop along multiple evolutionary paths. Unlike traditional games in the genre, EvoCreo incorporates an elemental affinity system, passive abilities, and status effects that encourage varied team compositions and playstyles.
EvoCreo includes player-versus-player battling, a guild system for players to connect with each other, and post-story content. The visual presentation uses stylized 2D sprites and top-down exploration, while the soundtrack and world design aim to evoke a nostalgic yet modern feel.
Plot Summary
The game begins with the protagonist, whose name can be chosen by the player, setting out to uncover the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of his father. Lanos, president of LanoSoft and a close friend of the player’s father, provides the player with an important lead: there is some link between his father and Shadow Hive, an organization that advocates for the genetic modification of Creo and is gaining influence across Zenith. The player then embarks on a quest to not only investigate Shadow Hive’s connection to his father’s disappearance, but to follow in his father’s footsteps by rising through the ranks of Creo trainers and becoming a powerful Evoking Master.
The player receives his first Creo and proceeds to fight his first few battles, during which he learns the basics of how to battle Creo as an Evoker. With each victory, he earns more experience points (EXP), levels up, and unlocks more moves until he is victorious at Plantae Arena and takes on his first Regional Arena Defender (RAD). Having proved himself once, the player continues to advance from battle to battle, city to city, arena to arena, RAD to RAD, all in preparation for the ultimate goal: fighting in the Coliseum. Sometimes he fights in exchange for crucial information or items such as a train ticket to the next city. In each location, the player meets a wide cast of characters, including friendly researchers, antagonistic scientists, and fellow trainers striving to climb the competitive ladder.
The player slowly learns more about the activities of Shadow Hive, which has been abducting and genetically modifying Creo. While genetic modification enhances certain capabilities, it also induces negative side effects such as decreased life span and mental health degradation (which often manifests as increased aggression). At labs in various cities, the player has the opportunity to take down Shadow Hive agents and win keys to the Shadow Hive Base.
The game concludes with revelations regarding the player’s father, Shadow Hive’s real objectives, and the role of Creo genetic modification in reshaping the world. With the threat subdued, the player ultimately achieves the rank of Evoking Master, though optional content encourages further world exploration, Creo collection, and competitive battling.
Plot Spoiler
When the player finally makes it to Shadow Hive headquarters, a bombshell drops: the player’s father has been in cahoots with Shadow Hive all along. He justifies his choices, claiming that genetic modification is necessary for Creo to reach their full potential. According to him, it is the only way to restore the Creo of today to the legendary might of the prime Creo of the past. However, he may have to rethink his theory after the player defeats both the Shadow Hive Queen and the father using non-GM Creo. The player and his father part ways, and the player proceeds to fight at the Coliseum in Fortuna City to earn his place as an Evoking Master.
Release History
EvoCreo was developed by Ilmfinity, an independent studio seeking to create a full-featured monster-capture RPG experience on mobile devices. At the time of its development, few titles in the genre offered deep combat and story mechanics outside of traditional console platforms like Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Wii. The studio’s goal was to fill that gap while designing a system capable of expanding through updates and sequels.
Development focused on optimizing performance for smartphones and tablets while retaining RPG depth. This included designing a flexible combat system, a diverse roster of Creo, and overworld exploration tailored for touchscreen control. Over time, patches improved balancing, performance, and multiplayer features.
EvoCreo was first released on Android and iOS in 2015. Following its success on mobile storefronts, it would release on Steam, a PC platform, on January 7th 2026, allowing the game to reach a broader audience. The game’s reception encouraged continued expansion of the franchise, eventually leading to the development and release of EvoCreo 2 in 2025 and additional related projects. EvoCreo 2 is planned for a Q1 2026 release.
