Thunderant is an Air and Electric-type Creo and one of the two adults a Basiby chick can grow into. A chick raised where storms break over the high ground takes on electricity and matures as Thunderant.

Thunderant is almost never seen in captivity, and not for want of trying. Whatever it is that lets the chick take this form does not survive being raised in comfort, and a Basiby brought up in safety will become an Ibanoth instead.

Biology

Thunderant is 2 meters across the wings and 90 kilograms, a heavy brown owl-formed Creo with cyan banding across the face, wrists and talons. The second head of the chick is gone, reabsorbed during the change, and the surviving skull has broadened to carry the charge-conducting tissue that runs down into the legs.

The pale rings on its wings and body look like eyes and are not. Thunderant's actual eyesight is poor even by night-hunting standards, and the markings work on other Creo rather than for the bird: a Thunderant with its wings spread reads as something far larger and far more alert than it is. It locates prey by hearing, and its facial disc is unusually deep even for an owl-formed Creo.

The charge is stored in the legs and discharged through the talons at the moment of the strike, so Thunderant kills on contact rather than by grip. It hunts along ridgelines in unsettled weather, which is where it takes the charge back up, and a bird that has gone a long time without a storm hunts noticeably less successfully.

Description

Thunderant are rarely seen in captivity, as their wild nature is what allows them to take on this form. Though the markings on their bodies mimic eyes, they actually have very limited eyesight.
