One possibility is a "Doom of Valyria"/Atlantis-style history — an old civilization with unexplainable technology, wiped away by a natural disaster for a new civilization to later claim. The tech may be akin to modern EC2 tech: for example, a metal cherry blossom worn to repel unwanted creo attacks, or sword hilts that lure certain creo types.
